 Shalom Pond     September 4, 2009

shalom pond glows

sepia tint softens

last days of summer

lingering breath

lengthens time

man, bridge, water

reflect dog-days' ease

leaf sculls await breeze

while I stand

seeing the long long ago

children tumbling in sand

playground alive with laughter

wading pool laping tender toes

somehow my aging vision clears

seeing the long long ago

cardboard forts, bedsheet pup tents

shooters, aggies, tiger eyes

mud pies, lightning bugs, mica "gold"

heart beats with remembered races

bare feet flying through grandpa's meadow

koolaid shivering cold for lunch

clarity causes tears

soul aches

closing my eyes

silent sigh escapes

childhood drifts back deep inside
