hands performing grace

love formed of simple act

warmth radiates heart to heart

comfort flows from shared thoughts

family remembers other gatherings

laughter follows tears

sadness eases into soft smiles

toddler sits in great uncle’s emptied chair

child unaware he fulfills journey’s cycle

eight decades laid to well earned rest

eighteen months begins succession

 

wistful sigh breaks pensive moment

hungry hearts drift to laden table

elder thanks all drawn to meal

blessings offered for food

human and divine

and

for this world

sustenance for all

great uncles, toddlers, and all in between

enough food for each 

for with a nourished body

tis easier to bring peace
